Trinkets Galore

Do you remember back when you were 12 and bought some random thing that was cool at the time, but eventually went into storage for the next 15+ years?

You keep this junk saying to yourself,

"I might use this someday."

Or, "I'll give it to my kids."

Be honest, How many boxes of stuff do you have in storage right now full of those "Maybe someday" items?

Well I'm getting rid of it all! My vision is to have a home only filled with items I actually use.

We moved recently and I took the opportunity of looking at every single object we own, asking myself, "Will I ever use this?"

*

There have been some tough calls. I've had to say good bye to objects that hold memories. But they are useless and will never be anything more than a storage item. Why keep it?

My goal is to have a clutter-free house by the end of April.

Wish me luck.

* I used to collect small boxes. What am I going to do with 30 small boxes?

Note to self:
Make myself useful or Lisa will get rid of me.

I SO understand! My family is so incredibly packrat-y and we moved tons of stuff that we don't need cause we didn't have time to go thru it before moving. I'm coming across stuff I haven't seen in YEARS!! I see all this stuff that I thought was great when I was 12 or 15 or 18 or 21 or whatever- I have all these time capsules! About 80% gets tossed, I'm proud of myself. I really want a clutter-free life! I seem to be the only one actively paring down. I hate it when I get rid of stuff and my mom or sis adopt it-no!!! The whole point is to get rid of it!!! If I don't have room for it, what makes them think that they do!! Our house is very small-no room for much! I'm having to hold my mom's hand and help her get rid of stuff. There was this UGLY vase that no one wanted and she was all "maybe we should keep it" and I'm like NO!!! If you can't part with that, you're in trouble! I like the quote about keeping only things that are useful or beautiful- I try to make that my motto. Good luck with it!

I hate that kind of stuff.

Carli hates it when I am the one that spring cleans because I get in that throw away everything moods. If you don't know where to put something the garbage is a quick and easy solution.

lol to jared's comment.

i totally hear ya on this post, man. i'm all about ditchin' the stuff you're never gonna use...even though it might be cool.

myron's constantly coming up to me & askin' things like: "um, hon...have you seen that old piggy bank that my great grandpa gave me right before he died?"...to which i inevitably reply..."oh, that old thing? gave it to d.i." {woopsies!}

glad the move went smoothly. and you are totally cute in glasses in the snoopy picture, btw.

have a great day!

Good luck. I'm still decluttering from when I resolved that I was going to do it in January. I hope you don't have as much stuff. I think it might be easier after a move.

Good note Jared!

I'm trying to better about that very thing! I actually have a few boxes that were never unpacked the first time we moved. That was over 2 years ago. I think I should just chuck the whole darn thing! If I haven't touched it in 2 whole years and have no idea what's in it, why not! But I don't think I can do it. Maybe one day I'll take the Lisa challenge! You go girl!
