Instead I earned a degree in elementary education.
But now I'm a fitness trainer.
And I have a fantasy of being a sonographer.
Who knows what I'll be doing in 5 or 10 years.
I kind of don't know what I want be when I grow up.
I often wonder what my kids will be.
Particularly Hannah.
She conducts regular experiments with colored water.
She calls it "Rainbow drops of sunlight experiments".
She takes it seriously and spends serious time on it.
She uses the primary colors to make other colors.
Her obsession with bugs is going on years now.
She has no problem touching them.
Sometimes it absolutely freaks me out.
It's the worms and centipedes that really get to me.
Snails are the new favorite.
She likes to talk to others about bugs and explain their different skills.
She has even gotten her friends into collecting them.
But if you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up she will say...
a princess.
I absolutely love my princess/scientist/entomologist.
She kind of rocks our world right now with fun.

Asher shows an aptitude toward physical agility.
We joke he is going to be an Olympic athlete when he grows up.
That kid is fearless. He starts tumbling lessons soon.
I get approached often by other moms at the park who don't know what he can do.
They think he's about to fall to his death and regularly inform me of the predicament he's in.
I always respond, "Don't worry, he's fine."

But the odds Asher will be an athlete are unreal.

Now he's a designer of children's educational applications.

I always had a dream of being an insurance agent when I was younger. I think I went to the insurance agent's office with my mom when I was younger and they always seemed so happy and nice. I thought they had such cush lives! Then I worked for an insurance agent and realized I had been deceived. Now I'm an accountant and I think it's pretty tight!
I always always always wanted to be a teacher. Like, since I was four years old. I quit school after two semesters to get married and become a mom. Which, when you think about it, is like the ultimate teaching job there is. It's why I'm going to home school. I get to teach every day, still be a stay at home mom & I get to spend HOURS in Staples buying organizational and school supplies! It's my dream job.
i wanted to be an Archaeologist. As a 12 year old I would sit and read about Cleopatra and Egyptian pyramids. I wanted to discover dinosaur bones and ancient relics. It still sounds so cool to me. I guess the History Channel will have to do for now.
Side note: My desire to be a veterinarian died the first time I saw our cat get an exam and I saw where the vet stuck her finger.

Tell me about it! I have something called "I want to do THAT!" Basically, anything I think is awesome, I want to do. -- Growing up, it was: gymnast, ice skating, whale trainer, Disneyland worker/performer...
I actually was hired by Disneyland in college! (had to decline, but I woulda ROCKED that "culinary hostess in Fantasy Land" :) :)
Of course, I DID end up with my all-time, forever wanted to be, job:
MOM! (and teacher, and nurse, and cook, and maid, and gardener, and seamstress ...)
I wanted to be a Disney Animator when I was like 9. Trying to be an art teacher and teaching kids about animation is pretty close. I also wanted to work at Disneyland (and still do) and I came close to that by working at a different amusement park. I also wanted to go into fashion- I still design costumes and things for me. If I lived in Utah I'd consider designing modest wedding dresses.
It's ok to want to do different things and grow and change- make life much more interesting. I also think that God gives us opportunities better than we can imagine for ourselves.
I love your kids' interests- it'll be interesting to see what they do with their talents and creativity! And who says you have to grow up anyhow?
